Dark Spindle has enjoyed a wonderful month as we have progressed from one screening, to a selection for a workshop at the DIFF and meeting a tonne of people in the industry.

Here i will especially mention one such person. Mike; who by day represents a fabulously creative company which goes by the name of "9714" and by night runs I-BO at the Millennium Hotel near the Airport. He conducts a film screening there every Monday evening. This week it was the very popular "Being Osama" by a local Director Mahmood Kabour and i have to admit it is a must see. I had tears in my eyes and when that happens, we all know what it means.

In brief, Being Osama looks at the post 9/11 lives of 6 men from Montreal named Osama. Contrary to popular belief, the doco doesnt just deal with racism, it is a whole lot more, looking into the depths of what makes these Osama's stand tall regardless of what the state of the world is.

I suggest all of you head to I-BO regularly for the screening session is beyond just comfortable. You have such cute sofas, you almost feel grand. With dark walls, and tired Dubaians loitering about, anticipating a thought provoking movie, I-BO is a perfect hangout for someone looking to relax and let things be. What's more, if you're a girl, you will absolutely love Mike's company. Not only is he astonishingly, adorably good looking, attractive and dare i say hot, he is as charming as they come. Pleasant smile and a welcoming attitude added to the ambient is bound to cheer you up. So do yourself a favor and pay the place a visit!

Film Screening

It has been a tremendously over whelming experience and we finally had the film finished.
i will post pictures and trailers really soon.
The film was screened at the mall of the emirates on 16th November and we had a blast watching it. It looked brilliant!

Into Post Production

I just realised i haven't updated this in a while

I found my actors and crew and i love them to bits. A massive thankyou goes out to 7Days for having published my letters requesting voluntary actors to get in touch with me.

The production was great fun! We had our highs and lows in cluding a fainting incident on my part, there were setbacks but there was plenty of fun and excitement. The crew and cast members are fantabulous! i enjoyed working with them so much im pretty certain they will become regular faces on my films.

We are in post production right now, finalising the audio.

I hope all goes well. Keeping fingers crossed.

Ashes to Dust

Thats the final title of the film. i feel it works very nicely with the theme and the tourney involved.

I am still looking for actors. Not only do i need a male lead, a female to play the males sister, an older lady for the mother and finally a whole load of people to act as the attendees of the funeral. Needless to say these are the most important people as their presence will have to guide the lead actor's emotions.

Short Feature

Here is the first major hurdle...making a short film. but its the hurdle ive been looking forward to for a looooong time now. so here is our chance.

The film is about a young man returning home for his father's funeral which has come at a time when England's cricket team finally has the chance to beat Australia in the Ashes, the tournament that the young man and his father watched avidly in is childhood. it is the tournament that he grew up, n now that it is bearing fruit, his father is not present to share it with him.

One of the first things to be looked after is the crew. We require assistance in the following areas:

1 Lighting (photographers professional or amateur are all invited)
2 Location sound recordist
3 boom operators
4 post production sound design
5 Technical crew to look after shot placement, rehearsals and getting shoot organised.

this is the first film i made at film school the task was to make a film that reflects the personality of a chosen peer. my film depicts Natasha as a sensitive person who notes the little things in life and holds her family close to her however there is a lot of pain that she hides from the outside world.

Here's an idea...a thought...a hope

Though i am currently a student film maker, this is a dream, the fruit of which has become an aim, a desire.

The purpose of Dark Spindle Productions is to become the voice of Arab/Asian Film Making and sculpt the industry without compromising on the perspective of individuals and the mass audience.
